Barbara Ann Frost

Barbara Ann Frost was born on August 23, 1947, in Stamford, Connecticut, to Francis James Condie and Marian Edna Condie. Barbara passed away on August 23, 2026, on her 79th birthday—leaving this world on the very same date she entered it 79 years earlier.

She was raised alongside her sister, Diane Louise Condie, and spent her early childhood in Connecticut until the seventh grade.

Throughout her life, Barbara called several places home. She spent periods of time in Washington State, California, Colorado, and Kansas before eventually settling in Oklahoma, where she lived for most of her life. In 2021, Barbara moved to Michigan, where she spent the remaining years of her life surrounded by the love and care of family.

Barbara was the proud mother of five children: Sherri McLemore, Maureen Abbott, Mark McVickers, Troy McVickers, and Jason Frost. Above everything else, Barbara loved her family. Her children, a host of grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren brought tremendous joy to her life, and she was happiest when everyone was together—even if a family gathering occasionally got a little loud. With a family as big as Barbara’s, quiet was probably never really an option anyway.

Barbara’s working years were spent as a café cook and homemaker. She loved to cook, and feeding people was one of the ways she showed her love. If you left Barbara’s house hungry, there was a pretty good chance it was your own fault.

Some of the family’s favorite memories of Barbara were made sitting around a table playing games. Canasta, Rummy, Phase 10, and Yahtzee were among her favorites. There was always plenty of laughter, conversation, and undoubtedly a little disagreement over who was winning, who was keeping score correctly, and whether someone was bending the rules. Barbara enjoyed the competition, but what mattered most was having her family gathered around the table with her.

Those simple moments meant everything to Barbara. A home full of family, something good cooking in the kitchen, a deck of cards on the table, and people laughing together were the things that made life rich.

Barbara was a Christian woman whose faith in Jesus Christ was an important part of her life. Her family takes comfort in knowing that although they grieve her passing, they do so with the hope found in Christ and the promise of eternal life. They can only imagine the reunion that awaited her with the loved ones who had gone before her—and knowing Barbara, there may already be a card game getting started.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Francis James Condie and Marian Edna Condie; her sister, Diane Louise Condie; her daughter, Maureen Abbott; her son, Mark McVickers; and her great-granddaughter, Alana McLemore.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherri (Maton) McLemore; sons, Troy (Tammie) McVickers and Jason (Melissa) Frost; Son-in-law Steve Abbott, Daughter-in-law Monica McVickers and a host of beloved grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who will continue to tell her stories, laugh about the good times, and carry her memory forward.

Barbara will be remembered not simply for the number of years she lived, but for what filled those years: faith, family, food, laughter, card games, and love. She knew that some of life’s greatest blessings weren’t complicated. They were found around the dinner table, in a home filled with family, and in the laughter shared between people who loved one another.

Her earthly journey came full circle on August 23—beginning and ending on the same date, 79 years apart. While her family will deeply miss her presence, her cooking, her laughter, and those competitive games around the table, they are grateful for every year, every story, every meal, and every memory they were blessed to share with her.

And whenever the family sits down for another game of Rummy, Canasta, Phase 10, or Yahtzee, there will always be an empty seat that reminds them of Barbara—and probably a debate about how she would have played the hand.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel, Liberal, Kansas.

A burial will follow at Forgan Cemetery in Forgan, Oklahoma.
