Billy Duane Smith, age 78, died Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas. He was born on March 7, 1943, the son of William Elliot Smith and Versia Jewell Likens in Liberal, Kansas. Billy married Shirley Palmer on February 22, 1973, in Hooker, Oklahoma. Together they had one son, Roger. Billy served in the US Navy in Vietnam. He worked as a Cemetery Sexton for Liberal Cemetery. His presence in our lives will be sorely missed. Survived by: His wife, Shirley Smith of Liberal Kansas His sons, Roger (Antonia “Toni”) Smith of Yukon, Oklahoma And John (Donna) Smith of Eunice, New Mexico Five grandchildren, Zayden, Mason, Jennifer, Blake, and Zack And six great grandchildren. Billy was preceded in death by both his parents, William and Versia Smith and his sister Janet Smith. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2021, the family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Street Liberal, Kansas. Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM on Friday, August 20, 2021, at the New Beginnings Church 2021 N. Western Liberal, Kansas with Pastor Kevin Alexander and Pastor William Ponder presiding. Interment will follow at the Liberal Cemetery. Memorial donations suggested to Duane Smith Memorial in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Street Liberal, Kansas.
