Charles Eugene “Gene” Myers, Jr., age 93, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Westhaven Nursing Home in Stillwater, Oklahoma, after a short terminal illness. He was loved and appreciated at every nursing home he resided in. Wheatridge Nursing, Liberal, Kansas, and Fairfax Nursing Home in Fairfax, Oklahoma. All residents and staff loved and appreciated his guitar, fiddle, banjo, and harmonica songs he played and serenaded for them for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, or any reason that arose giving them joy and love of music in any atmosphere. Shortly after his birthday on August 18 when he turned 93 he quickly developed a debilitating illness struck and he was transferred to OSU Medical Facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The medical conditions proved to overcome his ability to play for his peers. Gene was admitted to Westhaven nursing home in Stillwater, Oklahoma on September 4th, 2026, accepting hospice care for his final days. He left this life rising into the arms of his mother, Eula, brothers, Bill, Brad, Jimmy, Kenneth. Sisters, Eva Baldwin and Yvonne Moore. Niece, Tera Renne Rawlins, and nephews, Jerry Newton and Perry Baldwin and wife Polly Baldwin. He kept Rolla’s Corner Stop filled with laughter and songs from Willie Nelson and several other musicians; He was enthusiastic about participating at Guymon Pioneer Days in May of each year. He attended for decades. Gene and his brothers supported Ground Hog Suppers in surrounding communities and all other supported meals. They traveled to auctions, racehorses, garage sales and interacted with every resident bringing laughter and community. We will miss this man, his siblings, parents and all who preceded him in death who made our world a better place to enjoy our community.
Gene is survived by sister Katherine Rawlings (Rick) of Enid, Oklahoma and brother Warren Myers (Barbara) of Rolla. Many nieces and nephews from his siblings and their children spanning across Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Arizona.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
Graveside Services will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton, Kansas.
