CURTIS L. PHILLIPSCurtis Layne Phillips, 58, died Aug. 29, 2013, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, from burns suffered in a fire at his home in rural Turpin, Okla.He was born Oct. 9, 1954, to Melvyn Rad Phillips and Glenda "Janice" (Pettersen) Phillips, in Liberal, Kans.He attended schools in Liberal and Kismet.He had worked in the oilfield, construction business and automotive repair.He had lived at various towns, in Oklahoma City, Okla., Long Beach, Calif., Daytona Beach, Fla. and Dallas, Texas, before returning to the Liberal area in 2000.Survivors include his common-law wife, Lori Emmert Phillips; two brothers, Larry Phillips, Kismet, Anthony B. Phillips, Alaska; and one sister, Joy Beasley, Kismet.He was preceded in death by his parents.o Cremation has already occurred.Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
