Donald Cheyne Sumner

Donald Cheyne Sumner, age 45, died on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at his residence in Liberal, Kansas.

He was born on July 7, 1981, in Tell City, Indiana, to Richard Earl and Linda (Holt) Sumner.

Donald received his GED and continued his education at Seward County Technical School, where he earned his welding certificate. He worked as a welder for a tank manufacturing company and took pride in doing honest, hands-on work. Donald had a gift for making others feel welcome. He enjoyed playing golf, especially Wednesday Night Men's Golf, as well as softball and corn hole. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his sons and loved being part of their activities. Outgoing, friendly, and full of life, Donald loved gathering with family and friends at BBQs and group events. He was often the first to arrive and the last to leave, leaving behind countless memories of laughter, and good conversation.

Donald is survived by his wife, Penny Rodriguez

Kovin Michael Rodriguez Sumner,

Mother, Linda Sumner,

Mother-in-law, JoAnna Lydia Thomas, and

Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.

Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Liberal Recreation Center or the Liberal Animal Shelter in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
