Dorka Herrera Mercedes, age 77, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was born on July 2,1948 in Dominican Republic, to Emilio Herrera and Altagracia Mercedes.

Dorka pursued her education in the Dominican Republic, attending both high school and the University of the East (UCE). She devoted her life to teaching both elementary and secondary students in the Dominican Republic before moving to the United States. Dorka was a private school principal and a CEO. She was also a ordained minister from the Assemblies of God in the Dominican Republic and a Bible teacher.

She is survived by her three daughters, Fanny Jocelyn Popa and her husband Josue,

Daisy Esther Sanchez and her husband, Matias, and

Luz Sanchez Richardson and her husband, David,

She is preceded in death by her son, Wagner Daniel Sanchez, and

siblings, Jesus Maria Herrera Mercedes,

Israel Emilio Herrera Mercedes,

Jose Herrera Mercedes,

Doroteo Herrera,

Tomasita Herrera Ramos,

Jacobo Herrera, and

Andrea Herrera.

Visitation will be at 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Josue Popa will be officiating.

A burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery.

Dorka Herrera Mercedes, de 77 años, falleció el martes 13 de enero de 2026 en el Hospital St. Luke's de Kansas City, Misuri.

Nació el 2 de julio de 1948 en la República Dominicana, hija de Emilio Herrera y Altagracia Mercedes.

Dorka cursó sus estudios en la República Dominicana, donde asistió tanto al instituto como a la Universidad del Este (UCE). Dedicó su vida a la enseñanza de alumnos de primaria y secundaria en la República Dominicana antes de trasladarse a los Estados Unidos. Dorka fue directora de una escuela privada y consejera delegada. También fue ministra ordenada de las Asambleas de Dios en la República Dominicana y profesora de Biblia.
