Gary Lee Koehn

Gary Lee Koehn 73, died Saturday, September 5, 2015 at his residence in Liberal, KS. He was born July 31, 1942 in Liberal, KS the son of Milford D. & Mae A. (Graber) Koehn. He was a lifelong resident of Liberal graduating in 1960 from Liberal High School. He had graduated from OPSU in 1965 and received his Master Degree in Education from Kansas State University in 1977. He retired from USD 480 as a teacher where he taught American History at West Middle School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He also was a member of the Early Risers Kiwanis and the National Education Association, Kansas NEA and Liberal NEA. He loved music and singing filled his heart. He had a passion for his family and most especially his granddaughter Lydia. In 1964 he married Elizabeth “Beth” Borden in Liberal, KS. She survives.Other survivors include:2 Daughters Shari Lea Koehn Sisk and husband Doug Hillsboro, KS Susan Elizabeth Koehn Woods and husband Darrin Amarillo, TX Grandchildren Lydia Brooke Woods, Beth Woods, Michael WoodsJennifer Woods.2 Great Granddaughters Reyna Woods, Janie Kay WoodsHe was preceded in death by his parents and 1 Brother Steven R. Koehn.Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Anglemyer presiding. Burial will be held at Liberal Cemetery.Visitation time will be 9am to 8pm Tuesday at Brenneman Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers and plants memorial contributions may be sent to the Gary Koehn tree memorial in care of Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901. The family will plant a tree in Gary’s Name.
