James I. "Jim" Flanigan

April 18, 1933 — January 15, 2011

James I. “Jim” Flanigan 77, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton, KS.He was born April 18, 1933, in Thorntown, IN, the son of Leo O. and Blanche (Dukes) Flanigan. Jim was a graduate of Colfax High School, Colfax, IN and graduated from Minnesota Bible College. He served in the Unites States Army after the Korean War ceasefire until 1957.He married Jean E. Smith of Lansing, MI, on March 7, 1953 in Minneapolis, MN. Jim served as minister in the Christian Church and Churches of Christ for 20 years. He was an accomplished musician and artist, composing and recording much of his own music with his family of five children, “The Singing Flanigan Family.” He worked as Director of Murray’s Children Center in Centralia, IL, and as Diagnostician at Alton State Hospital, Alton, IL. He later attended SIU, Carbondale, IL, and earned his Master’s Degree in Psychology. In August of 1989 he married Fanacita Barbosa. He is survived by:3 Sons, Don Flanigan and wife Teri Bridgetown, OH Stephen Flanigan and wife Sandy Brentwood, TN David Flanigan Los Angeles, CA2 Daughters, Michelle Henne and husband Alan Hugoton, KS and Shaunda Henry and husband David Tulsa, OK15 grandchildren, Kyla Mills, Kara Bowder, Kendra Whiat, Kyle Henne, Joshua Flanigan, Chanelle, Alexa, Sarah, and Charlotte Flanigan, Nachesca, Chalaini and Cheyton Flanigan, Joseph Willis, and Jack and Clay Henry10 great grandchildren, Maverick, Amanda, and Cody Mills, Jett Bowder, Emme Whiat, and Hanna, Ellie, Hazel, Evelyn, and Azirae Flanigan.He was preceded in death by his Parents, two brothers and four sisters.A private Memorial service will be held in Tulsa at a later date.
