Larry “X Sarge” Hendrickson, age 85, died on June 18, 2026, at his residence in Liberal, Kansas.
He was born on May 17, 1941, to Edward Louis and Lucille (Williams) Hendrickson in Liberal, Kansas.
After graduating from high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Army, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned from 1958 until his retirement in 1981 as a Sergeant First Class. Throughout his years of service, he was stationed in many locations, including Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Germany; and two tours in Vietnam. Larry served his country with honor and dedication and was highly decorated, including receiving the Bronze Star. After his military retirement, Larry returned to Liberal and worked for Halliburton, retiring twice.
Larry was an avid hunter who especially loved his hunting dogs, with Boomer holding a special place in his heart. He enjoyed watching westerns and cheering on OU football. Known affectionately as the “Casanova on the Dance Floor,” Larry brought charm, humor, and joy to those around him. He was a proud member of the American Legion Lawrence M. Wimmer Post #80, the Honors Team, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
He will be remembered by his family and friends with deep gratitude and respect for his honorable and dedicated service to his country.
He is survived by his son, Samuel K. Barton of Brookshire, Texas,

Niece, Rita Hutchinson of Overland Park, Kansas,
Cousin, Yvette Stark and her husband, Paul of Overland Park, Kansas, and their daughter, Kyra,

Cousin, Marilyn Shetler & family of Dallas, Texas

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lucille Hendrickson,

In accordance with Larry’s wishes, cremation will take place, and he will be laid to rest in Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.
