Leona M. Cohenour 79, died Friday, February 24, 2012 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, KS.She was born July 20, 1932 at Fellsburg, KS the daughter of Lawrence C. and Lorinda (Cole) Johnson. She was a longtime resident of Liberal moving to Lakeview Retirement Village in Lenexa, in May of 2011, to be closer to her son and his family.She was a homemaker. She also was the bookkeeper for her husband’s trucking company, C&N Trucking.She was an active member of the First Christian Church, VFW Auxiliary, Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary and had served as a board member of the Seward County Council on Aging. She was very active at the Liberal Senior Center volunteering her time, working as a receptionist one day a week, serving as a Noodle Lady and dancing with the Swishers and the Sassy Sisters.On October 9, 1954 she married Melvin C. Cohenour in Raton, N.M. He died June 3, 2010.Other survivors include1 Son Don Cohenour and wife Sheila (Warden) Lenexa, Kansas2 Brothers Bill Johnson Sandy, Utah Larry Johnson Liberal, Kansas2 Sister Velma Durre Edgewood, Illinois Lorna Hill Hooker, OK3 Grandchildren Jocelyn Cohenour Prairie Village, KS Jessica and Justin Cohenour, Lenexa, KSPrecededed in death by 4 brothers Don, Glenn, Lawrence, and Carl Virdie Johnson and 1 sister Pauline Hammond.Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday March 3, 2012 at First Christian Church with Pastor Terry Ford presiding. Burial will be held in Restlawn Cemetery,Visitation time will be 5 – 8 pm Friday at Brenneman Funeral Home and 9:30 am until service time Saturday at the church with the family present to greet friends.Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers to the American heart Association or Stepping Stone Shelter in care of Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
