After an amazing life Lillian Ruth Fawcett, age 97, died on Monday, June 10, 2024, in Sedgwick County, Kansas.
Ruth was born in Lakin Kansas, on March 27, 1927, to her loving parents, Elijah Andrew and Opal Clara (Childers) Pennington. After graduating from Liberal High School in 1945, Ruth embarked on a journey of love and companionship on September 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Wendell Carl Wettstein. Together they built a life filled with memories until Wendell's passing on May 5, 1977. Ruth worked as a Cafeteria Dietitian starting at Kismet Elementary and High School and later at Southwestern Heights High School. She was a devoted homemaker and mother to her three children as well. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional roles as she took care of the family farm, managed the dairy, and fearlessly operated tractors, trucks, and combines. She found joy in her many hobbies and interests, such as being an active member of Kismet Global Methodist Church and Friends Church in Liberal. Ruth’s talents shone through in her role as a 4H leader, where she shared her skills and knowledge of sewing and cooking. Later in life, Ruth found love once again with Edward Madison Fawcett, they were united in marriage on November 25, 1983. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2017.
