Lloyd Owen Angell

Lloyd Angell of Estes Park, CO died at Prospect Park Living Center in Estes Park on July 10, 2011. He was 95 years old. Lloyd Owen Angell was born August 13, 1915 in Plains, KS. He graduated from Plains High School, Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS with a degree in Art and received a Master’s Degree in Art & Art Education from the University of Colorado. He taught for over 30 years at schools in Kansas and Colorado and gave many painting demonstrations to various groups.Lloyd was also very interested in Music and sang in and directed several choirs. In his later years, he picked up his harmonica again. He played for the enjoyment of family at reunions, at his home and for various clubs and service organizations. He was always very entertaining with his harmonica. He married Helen Louise Campbell after they both graduated from Bethany College. They had 2 daughters, Judy Angell of Tulsa, OK and Joyce Kanatzar of Oklahoma City, OK. Helen died July 2, 1963.On June 19, 1964 he married Dolores June Morris in Liberal, KS. Dolores had twin daughters; Darlene Amen of Estes Park, CO and Charlene McCoy of Jackson Hole, WY.Some of Lloyd’s distinctive offices were President of Kansas Art Education in 1963, Director of Art Education for 15 years, member of Delta Phi Artists Group, Commercial Artist for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS during World War II, past District Governor of Lions International, Chairman of Community Chest Drive in 1962, chairman of Seward County Cancer Drive in 1964 and elected to the Board of Kansas Educators. He was also Chairman of the Board of First United Methodist Church in Liberal, KS.Lloyd was the 4th of eight children born to Eddie Meade Angell (named for Meade, KS) and Minnie Davis Angell. They came to western Kansas in a covered wagon to buy many acres for wheat farming. After the passing of his parents, Lloyd farmed the family wheat land for many years. He is survived by only one sister, Aladine Angell Neuenshander of Boulder, CO. He is also survived by immediate family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sunday July 17, 2011 at 2:30 PM at First United Methodist Church in Liberal, KS. Visitation will be at the Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Propsect Park Living Center, where he received wonderful care, or to Hospice of the Estes Valley or the American Heart Association.
