Marcella Ruth Classen Stoll, 78, of Liberal, Kansas, peacefully passed away on February 18, 2026, at KU Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Marcella was born on July 6, 1947, in Fowler, Kansas, to the late Frank and Helen Classen. She grew up on Spring Valley Ranch and attended school in Meade, Kansas, later continuing her education at Friends Bible College. Throughout her life, Marcella was known for her strong work ethic, compassionate heart, and deep devotion to her family.
She dedicated many years to serving others, working part-time as a waitress at The Pancake House, Pizza Hut, and Alco. She later worked full-time as a Department Manager for Stage (formerly C.R. Anthony’s), where she was respected for her kindness, leadership, and commitment. Marcella took pride in her work and formed many lasting friendships along the way.
Beyond her professional life, Marcella found great joy in gardening and faithfully serving her church. She taught Vacation Bible School during the summers and Sunday School at South Church of God, sharing her love of faith with children and families. She also volunteered with Boy Scouts of America, Troop 48, supporting youth in her community with encouragement and dedication.
Marcella was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with her family, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and faith.
She is survived by her children, Michelle Holmes; Scott Holmes and wife Dana; her three grandchildren, Kameron Holmes, MaKayle McLendon, and Dallas McLendon; one great-grandchild, Jordyn McLendon; her sisters, Barbara Buschert and Lorene Jones-Henderson and husband Chuck; her brother, Ralph Classen and wife Ann; and her stepdaughter, Vicky Emery and husband Matt. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Doug L. Stoll; her parents, Frank and Helen Classen; and her sister, Frances Moore; her Brother-in-laws Murray Buschert and Danny Jones.
Marcella’s gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and generous heart will forever remain in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love and strength will continue through her family for generations to come.
Visitation will be from 11am to 7pm Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the Hornung Family Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 5pm to 7pm.
Funeral services will be held at Hornung Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Following the service, burial will take place at Countryside Bible Church Cemetery in Meade, Ks
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an Alzheimer’s dementia foundation in Marcella’s honor, in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd St, Liberal, Kansas.
