Margaret "Ruth" Adams

Margaret “Ruth” Adams, age 74, died on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in Plains, Kansas.

She was born on August 13, 1951, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Austin Wayne and Marjorie Ellen (Bruner) Bizzell.

Ruth graduated from Grove High School in 1969. She was united in marriage on August 9, 1974, to William "Bill" H. Adams Jr. Together they shared a home filled with love and laughter. Bill predeceased her on October 2, 2011. Ruth's family was her greatest treasure. She was the loving mother of three daughters, Ann, Heather, and Amber, as a grandmother, she was blessed with six grandchildren and was known as Gigi to her four great-grandchildren, who brought joy and laughter into her life.

Throughout her life, she spent most of her time serving others. Cooking was her passion, and she shared that love as a cook at Southwestern Heights High School and at SCCC for many years. She knew each student by name and went out of her way to make sure that everyone felt welcome. She also spent time working at C & K Grocery Store, Walmart and Dillons. She made many friends along the way. Her family and friends will carry her memory with them, honoring the joy that will remain etched in their hearts for years to come.

She is survived by her companion, Max Underwood of Forgan, Oklahoma,

Three daughters, Ann Swank of Plains, Kansas,

Heather Encinias and her husband, Pat of Kismet, Kansas, and

Amber Miller and her husband, Zac of Guymon, Oklahoma,

Sister, Marsha Layne and her husband, Terry of Bixby, Oklahoma,

Six grandchildren, Jake Amerin,

Dalton Amerin,

Cheyan Woods,

Nate Encinias,

Crista Bailey, and

Tucker Swank,

Four great grandchildren including Maverick Amerin,Numerous nieces and nephews, and the exchange students who became her grandchildren as they spent their exchange year at Southwestern Heights High School.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Austin Wayne and Marjorie Ellen Bizzell,Brother, James Bizzell, Two infant brothers, Charles Wayne Bizzell and David Austin Bizzell,grandson, Malikye Younker, Numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and her many furbabies who preceded her in death. 

Visitation will be 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Plains Methodist Church, 601 Grand Avenue, Plains, Kansas. Pastor David Player and Pastor Buck Linton-Hendrick will be presiding. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to Ruth Adams Memorial Fund in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
