Donald “Max” Vangieson, 65, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024 at his residence in Liberal, Kansas.

He was born on February 20, 1959 in Liberal, Kansas, the son of Donald L. and Dorothy M. (Wilson) Vangieson.

He attended Liberal High School, where he graduated in 1977.

 On May 3, 2000, he married Tina LeMonnier in Liberal, Kansas. Tina passed away on May 23, 2019. 

Max worked for many years as a lease operator for Chesapeake Energy, and then in the maintenance department at Southwest Medical Center.

 Max loved to drive his Corvette. It was his pride and joy. He also enjoyed tending his lawn, it was always pristine. Max was very social and friendly, there was not a single person he didn’t like. He was loved by many. Max was very proud of his daughter, and lived vicariously through all her adventures. Max was always able to crack a joke to make someone smile. 

 

  1. Max is survived by his daughter, Rachel Vangieson and her partner, Tyler Sherrill, and his granddogs, Eiden and Kai. of Ft. Collins, Colorado.
  2. Step Son Matthew Schneweis and his wife Daley of Lubbock, Texas.
  3. Step Daughter Ashley Farmer and her husband Michael, of Arab, Alabama.
  4. Grandchildren Aria Blake Farmer, Tegan Marie Farmer, Ryah Marie Schneweis and Oliver Raye Schneweis.
  5. His Sister, Cindy Hall and her husband David, of Liberal Kansas.
  6. His niece, Gabrielle Lam and her husband Kevin, and their children Charlotte, Adelynn and Avery Lam, all of Liberal, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife, Tina. 

 Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 12pm to 8pm at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends from 6pm to 8pm.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 10am, at the Grace Lutheran Church, 1200 W 11th Street, Liberal, Kansas, with Reverend Jason Toombs presiding. 

Burial to follow at Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal. 

Memorial contributions suggested to Angels for Animals or the M.V.P.A. (The Military Vehicle Preservation Association), in care of the Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
