Richard Leroy Lepper, age 86, died on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Norman Veteran’s Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
He was born on November 11, 1939, in Haven, Kansas to Willard and Ula (Robertson) Lepper. He graduated from Plains High School.
On May 14, 1997, he married Carolyn Sue Pearce in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Richard was a lifelong member of the VFW. He joined the United States Army in 1957, where he rose to the rank of SP4. During his service, he trained at the White Sands Missile Range, and then served in Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in 1963.
Richard then went to work as a mechanic. He specialized in transmissions and then got certified in 8 categories as an auto mechanic.
He worked for International Harvester, The John Deere Dealership in Plains, Per Hoel Ford, and Chrysler Corner during his career.
Richard was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Some of his greatest times shared with his kids and grandkids were hunting, fishing and watching KC Chief’s football.
He is survived by his Wife, Sue Lepper of Liberal, Kansas
Sons Richard “Rich” Lepper Jr and his wife Kaaren of St. James, Missouri
Kim Blakeley and his wife Shona of Freedom, Oklahoma
David Patton and his wife Susie of Sarasota, Florida
Daughters Terri Joy of Jefferson, Iowa
Debra Brown and her husband Eugene of Moore, Oklahoma
12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Marian and Brother Bruce.
Funeral Services will be at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 10 am. Reverend Rex Petty will be officiating.
A burial will follow at Moscow Cemetery, with Military Honors by the United States Army.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lane Day VFW Post 3166 or Alzheimer’s Association in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
