Rodney “Rod” Alan Riley, age 56, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Liberal, Kansas.
He was born on May 10, 1969, in Neubruecke, Germany, to Leo W. and Linda (Jackson) Riley.
Rod graduated from Liberal High School in 1987. He furthered his education at Kansas State University. Rod was united in marriage to Gay Compton on July 11, 1992, in Liberal Kansas. He was the owner of Elite Motors in Liberal, where he became known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
As a passionate golfer, he found joy and camaraderie on the golf course, often spending his leisure time at the Liberal Country Club. Rod's connection to Kansas State University extended beyond his studies; he remained engaged with his university community and was a proud member of the Alumni Association. Rod's presence in the lives of those who knew him will be profoundly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Gay Riley of Liberal, Kansas,
Son, Cameron Alan Riley and Ruth Nunez of Kansas City, Missouri,
Parents, Leo and Linda Riley of Liberal, Kansas,
Brother, David Riley and his wife, Heidi of Liberal, Kansas,
Nephew, Jackson Riley,
Father and Mother-in-law, Larry and Aneta Compton, of Liberal, Kansas.
Sister-in-law, Amy Johnson and her husband, Craig,
Nephew, Blake Johnson,
Niece, Shelby Williams and her husband, Jacob,
Great-nephews, Foster, Fowler, and Fulten Williams, and
Niece, Grace Compton
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Vivian Riley, and
Lloyd and Louise Jackson,
Brother-in-law, Owen Compton,
Sister-in-law, Rhonda Compton Tinney, and
Nephew, Gus Riley.
Visitation will be at 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Seward County Community College Gymnasium, 1801 N. Kansas Avenue, Liberal, Kansas. Reverend Jeff Mitchell will be officiating.
A burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Liberal Country Club Irrigation Fund or the Gus Riley Scholarship Fund, both of which were dear to Rod’s heart, in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
