Selena Sarahy Chavez, died unexpectedly on April 14, 2020 at age 24 in Liberal, Kansas.
She was born December 14, 1995 in Las Cruses, New Mexico to Victor Chavez and Claudia (Gandarilla) Barco. She graduated from Liberal High School in 2014.
Selena is preceded in death by her beloved great-grandmother, Carmen Baray Garcia
Selena is survived by her parents and step-father Guillermo De La Torre; her children, Aneles and Mario Ontiveros; her siblings, Pamela, Emmily and Leslye Rosales, Hailey, Karmely and Jimena De La Torre and Victor, Valeria and Priscila Chavez. Grandparents; Dora Baray and Manuel Barco; Great-grandfather, Mario Baray. Also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who will miss her dearly.
She was currently a waitress at Old Chicago and was passionate about helping others and meeting new people with a bright smile. She was a devoting mother to her two beautiful children and enjoyed spending time with her family. Selena was a young woman of faith and as a true believer, she shared God's words with all those around her. Those who met Selena described her as a beautiful soul who always greeted everyone with a hug and a smile.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m. with an all-night vigil, followed by a funeral service on Tuesday April 21 at 2:00 p.m. Both Services will be held at the Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana, 122 West Wilson Street, Liberal, Kansas. Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery, Pastor Bernabe Aguilar will officiate.

Attendance at services will follow CDC guideline’s and State requirements restricting gathering size at Visitation and Funeral Services to 10 people. In order to be admitted to the funeral ceremony and graveside service, you must present the admittance ticket provided by the Funeral Home. This is for safety and the best interest everyone’s health; we encourage use of social media to offer condolences and support to the family in lieu of attending.
