Wayne Denton King

Wayne Denton King, 84, died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS. He was born Dec. 13, 1927 in Casper, Wyoming, the son of George D. and Hazel A. (Brawner) King. He was raised in Phillipsburg, Kansas and graduated for Phillipsburg High School in 1945 and served as the senior class president. He and his wife Pat moved to Liberal in 1953 to establish Light & King Plumbing Co. He was a master plumber and electrician. In 1976 he and his sons established King Enterprises Inc. He semi-retired in1992 and he and his wife Pat became annual snowbirds in Safford, AZ.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a layman for many years. He also was a life member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He was a past president and League of Honor member in Kiwanis for 25 years. Wayne was a avid golfer and instrumental in the creation of the current LLC golf course. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.He enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and served as a 1st Class Petty Officer.On January 24, 1947 he married Patricia Henderson in Phillipsburg, KS. She survives. Other survivors include:2 Sons Rodney King and wife Lesley Liberal, KS Tracy King and wife Debbie Liberal, KS1 Daughter Janet Bird and husband Roger Kismet, KS1 Sister Aileen Light Los Angeles, CA4 Grandchildren Becky Bird, Kismet, KS, Andrew King and fiancée Ashley Powers, Junction City, KS, Ryan Bird and wife Leigh, Sublette, KS and Kassi Westerman and husband Tyler, Snyder, TX 4 great grandchildren Brayleigh McGinley, Kyler Bird, Ryan Westerman and Avery Bird.Many nieces and nephews.Preceded in death by parents and one brother Dean King.Memorial service will held at 10:00 am Monday, December 17, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place. A greeting time with the family will be held from 1-3 pm Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Brenneman Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association in care of Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brennemanfuneralhome.com
