About Us

Mike is originally from eastern Colorado. Growing up on a farm, in southwest Kansas makes him feel right at home. In 2001, he graduated from the University of Colorado – Boulder with a BA in History and then attended the police academy. He began his working career as a police officer in La Junta, Colorado and remained there for the next 10 years. Mike then made a move and a career change. He became the manager of a cemetery for the Archdiocese of Denver. While working there, he also attended Arapahoe Community College and completed a degree in Mortuary Science, graduating in August of 2015. In September, he passed the National Funeral Service Exams in both Funeral Arts and Embalming Science. Mike joined us in January 2016.

In 2017, Mike and his wife Kelly purchased Brenneman Funeral Home. Mike and Kelly are proud members of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church. Kelly is a former board member of Baker Arts, and member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Mike is a past member of the Seward County Fair Board, and is a board member and current President of the Seward County Historical Society.

Kelly was a integral part of the funeral home. She was committed to helping people during their time of need.
Kelly passed away suddenly in 2022.

Charles T. "Chuck" Bowman, CMSP, CFSP, CCO, joined us in 2017. He is Kelly's Father, and Mike's Father-in-law, completing our family buisness.

His career in funeral service began after working in law enforcement.

Chuck joined Hornung Family Funeral Home in 2017. He spent most of his career with Horan and McConaty, which operates several locations in the Denver, Colo. area; serving as Funeral Director, Manager, and Vice President of the company. Chuck has been extremely active in the Colorado Funeral Directors Association (CFDA) for a number of years. In addition to serving on the Disaster and Legislative Committees; he was a member of the CFDA board of directors, serving in the role of president in 2003. He served as the chair of Arapahoe Community College Mortuary School Advisory Board. In 2014, he retired from his role as deputy commander of the Region VIII DMORT.

Chuck served on the NFDA Board of Directors as the President. He previously served as Colorado's representative to the NFDA Policy Board. He has also served on NFDA's Disaster Committee and Metals Recycling Task Force.

He is currently a member of the Liberal Bee Jays Board and game day PA announcer, Past President of the Liberal Rotary Club, member of the Liberal Community Concert Board, and current member of the SCCC Foundation Board.
